Good thread
So just out of interest does anybody know of any contingency plans?

More like those survivors who knew practical agriculture would be engaging in collective bargaining with those survivors who had well-stocked hideouts and well-armed heavies, for their cut of whatever can be grown on their newly acquired land. Basically what happened when the Black Death generated a labour shortage - the landowners found they had to grant a raise and some time off to attract and retain workers lest they signed up with one who would and leave them to starve. Out of that came great progress and creativity, so it was not all bad. But I would not expect spaceship games.
NOOO thats a hellish vision.
Ah well atleast i could put my practical side to good use. would needs engineers am i right

Well were meant to have a global disaster in 2012 anyway. When another planet from another solar system enters our solar system and causes magnetic havoc amongst all the planets and will apparently flip the poles cause a unknown amount of human and natural disasters all over the planet and wipe out more than 90% of human life.
And the 10% or so that survive have to repopulate the earth agen and humans will ahve gone through there next stage of evoloution
Its been fortold in many different version of the Bibles and this is meant to be where the whole Noahs Ark story came from when it happned before
Well just have to wait and see though
I really hope you are joking.
Yes such things have been suggested by the whack-o contingents but of all our worries on this planet getting gob smacked by Planet-X is not one of them.
Mayan Calender states the yr 2012 I believe. But newho sumfin big is supposed to happen maybe even life changing in 2012. Hopes everyones got the tinfoil hats rdy. Mine is under my pillow
21st of December 2012 to be exact. Something will happen im sure heh its not just the mayan calender though theres all sorts of phrases some believe sum evil god will wake up and destroy human life and promote peace sumhow lol
Well see though

No no. The bits we can detect occurring in galaxies 12 billion light years away, those are the ones that come from the poles. They're like a gamma ray shotgun, but a GRB is by no means restricted in lethality to those narrow polar axes. That's why being anywhere within the stellar neighbourhood of a GRB is considered "bad" for creatures made of easily broiled meat. And we are firmly in the kill-radius of at least one candidate star - a star so murderous, so devoted to the radiation-slaughter of mankind, that it has actually gone supernova once before - and survived.
It waits.

This activity is nothing unusual. Every one of those little red marks on that graphic represent an event exactly like the one we are facing now. This is simply blatant fear mongering by the media and your peers. Yes, these all could be signs leading to an eruption, but also according to that graph, these same signs also decreased the pressure of the magma chamber back in the 80's, which it may do again, or lead to an eruption.
DO NOT take the last sentence with any fear, unless you live next door to Yellowstone. This most likely will not culminate in an eruption, and if it does, chances are it will NOT be a super-eruption. It has had many small (for Yellowstone) eruptions in the past - the last one was 70,000 years ago. None of the blatant signs of an eruption (especially a super-eruption) exist as of today.
Please people, trust the science and scientists before you trust the media. They've downplayed every geologist's attempt at telling them that this is nothing unusual. What is usual, however, is that the mainstream media needs to shut their face.
Hay i trust my scientist (i am an engineer dammit )
And agreed the media has been busy eh
